The very iconic EB110 was one that was never celebrated!
The Bankruptcy of Bugatti in 1995 and the introduction of Mclaren F1 really made the EB110 go into darkness!
Production was halted in 1995, with cars still in the production line.
Bugatti was eventually bought out by german automotive giant VW, but there’s a catch. VW had no interest in the half built cars, these were bougth by a German automotive company Dauer sportswagen.
Dauer bought all the semi-built cars and all available parts, with the intention of finishing the project. This project yielded 9 exceptional cars.
3-GTs, 1-supersport, and 5-supersport lightweight. Except the 5 SS lightweight all others had increased power and minor modifications. The 5 SS Lightweight were given major improvements and power increase to over 700HP, at stock by Bugatti EB110 GT produced about 550HP from its 3.5L quad turbo V12.
This particular one in the picture is a EB110 SS lightweight by Dauer, a 1 off 1 fully exposed carbon fibre, one of the first of its kind! It was not perfect, in fact the imperfections add to its character. The weaves on the car don’t match properly and now it looks dull and a little yellowish. But one must keep in mind that carbon fibre was largely unheard of in the 2000s; in this era came the EB110 with exposed carbonfibre. From Bugatti, EB110 came with aluminium body panels and carbon fibre chassis these 5 SS by Dauer got full carbon fibre body in 2001-2002.
This exposed carbon fibre EB110 SS by Dauer was not a garage queen for what it was! It was driven in rallies and others by the first owner and got decent miles on it.
The EB110 was a car that was way ahead of its time and certainly a one that set supercar standards or maybe hypercar standards, but went under-rated! Today a total of about 139 EB110s exists including race cars, special editions…
Funfact: Brabus has got its hands on one EB110 surprisingly without any Power upgrades but simple aesthetics upgrades.
